Holy Diocese of Chora: Fundraiser Event in support of the “Our Daily Bread” program

In an atmosphere of emotion, solidarity and spiritual unity, the fundraiser event in support of the “Our Daily Bread” program was held with great success at the Parish of the Presentation of Our Lord in Coburg, in the Holy Diocese of Chora, through which the significant amount of $50,000 dollars was raised.

“Our Daily Bread” is a program that was born, in the Parish of the Presentation of Our Lord, in response to the needs of the local community. Over time and with the blessing of the Church, it has evolved into an organised and stable initiative of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, integrated into the pastoral care of the Holy Diocese of Chora.

Officially operating since 2018, the program offers daily free cooked meals, basic necessities and personal support to our vulnerable fellow human beings. With the paternal blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, this project is a living testimony to the Orthodox faith.

The event was graced by the presence of Australia’s Deputy Minister for Defence, Federal Member of Parliament for Wills, The Hon. Peter Khalil, who praised the Church’s contribution to supporting social cohesion.

His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, representing His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, delivered a address in which he emphasised the need to continue and expand the work: “This work should never be for us. It should always be for them, the people we serve,” he emphasised, among other things.

Warm thanks were extended to Fr. Leonidas Ioannou and the Parish volunteers for their initiative and continuous support of the program from the very beginning. Special mention was also made to the parishes of the Holy Diocese of Chora and the wider Archdiocese, who consistently contribute through food donations, volunteering and prayer.

During the event, major donors and sponsors were honoured with commemorative gifts, as a sign of gratitude for their generosity and faith in the Church’s charitable work.

The valuable collaboration with local government and state agencies was also recognised, whose support expands the ability of “Our Daily Bread” to reach even more people in need.

The $50,000 raised will be used to strengthen and expand the program, so that “Our Daily Bread” can continue to offer food, hope, dignity and comfort in Christ, with consistency and love.
