Holy Diocese of Adelaide: St George College celebrates whole-school Liturgy

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, St George College Thebarton celebrated a whole-school liturgy on Tuesday 3rd of June 2025 at the neighbouring Church of St George.
As a part of its Orthodox Studies program and in order to instil an Orthodox ethos in its staff and students, it has been customary for the School to arrange the whole-School bilingual liturgy once per term, taking place during the morning lessons.
The service was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Silouan of Adelaide, who was assisted by long-time parish priest, Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Fr Diogenes Patsouris, and the Presbyter Fr John Saredakis who is also a former student, a teacher, and a parent of the College. His Grace conveyed the blessings of His Eminence and spoke to the children about the importance of prayer- starting with thanking God. The students, from youngest to oldest, all put on exemplary behaviour. They were prepared through instruction and letters sent home to parents with instructions on how to prepare for the Liturgy and (where possible) to receive Holy Communion. Thanks to these careful instructions and the encouragement of the staff, a large percentage of the children (and staff) were able to reverently partake of the Divine Mysteries.
This service is a credit to the sensitivity and dedication of the wonderful staff and students of the College. May God continue to bless the school, its staff and its students into the future.
