Greek President lays wreath at Monument of Unknown Soldier in honour of Armed Forces Day

President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, representatives of the political party, the civilian and military leadership of the Greek armed forces and security forces, the Attica Region governor Giorgos Patoulis and a representative of Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos visited the Hellenic Parliament on Sunday for Armed Forces Day.

They were received by Parliament President Konstantinos Tasoulas, who had earlier also attending the celebratory mass for Armed Forces Day held at the Church of Agios Dionysios Areopagitis.

The gathered officials then made their way to the Monument of the Unknown Soldier before the parliament, where President Sakellaropoulou laid a wreath in honour of the armed forces of the country.

President Sakellaropoulou, who had also attended the mass, made the following statement:
“Today is the day to celebrate the Armed Forces, which with self-denial protect our national independence on land, at sea and in the air. We honour those that gave their lives for our country, the unknown soldiers that sacrificed themselves for our freedom, the watchful guardians of our borders, the men and women that secure our territorial integrity and our non-negotiable territorial rights. At the same time, they offer their valuable aid in other emergencies, such as natural disasters and the pandemic. Our gratitude is the least that we owe them!”
