Greek PM highlights urgency of Sinai Monastery agreement in call with Egyptian President

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss pressing developments in the Middle East and the risks they pose to regional stability and security.

During the discussion, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis emphasised the critical need to prevent further escalation and called for a renewed dialogue among all involved parties to ease tensions in the region.

A significant part of the conversation focused on the ongoing negotiations between Greece and Egypt regarding the status of the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai. Both leaders underscored the importance of reaching a timely agreement to protect the heritage and interests associated with this historic religious site.

The talks reflect the shared commitment of both countries to safeguard the monastery’s spiritual and cultural significance while maintaining peace and cooperation in the broader Middle East.

The Greek government expressed hope that the progress made will soon culminate in a mutually beneficial resolution, strengthening bilateral ties and contributing to regional stability.
