The European Commission on Wednesday approved an eight- million-euro Greek programme for the support of film distributors and cinemas hit by the pandemic and the restrictive measures imposed by the Greek government to stop the spread of the virus.
The programme was approved on the basis of a temporary framework of state subsidies. The measure will deal with the beneficiaries’ losses in October-December 2020 due to the closing of the cinemas.
The amount of support per beneficiary will be calculated based on the number of seats in each cinema and for the distributors on the loss of income. The subsidy will not exceed 1.8 millions per company and will be given by December 31, 2021 at the latest.
