GO Youth Melbourne: Spiritual Talk for the youth with Athonite monk Father Seraphim

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne, GO Youth Melbourne warmly welcomed Father Seraphim, an Athonite monk from the Holy Skete of Saint Anna on Mount Athos.

The talk held on 18th July 2024 at the parish of Saint Cathrine, Malvern East, saw a great turnout of young adults. The evening began with dinner and socialising.

In his opening address, Father Seraphim spoke about life as a monk living on Mount Athos. He spoke of Mount Athos as a place of prayer, repentance and hard work. He emphasised that as Christian’s we live for the other person and he also delved into the principle of catharsis of the soul. If we begin to stop living for ourselves, and the more one aims at self-emptying, the fuller we begin to feel, and through following God’s commandments we receive the grace of the Holy Spirit.

GO Youth Melbourne would like to thank Father Seraphim for his captivating talk and his insight into spiritual warfare to the youth of Melbourne.
