GO Fellowship Melbourne: 100 people attend ‘Come and See’ talk series to learn about Early Christian Church

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, Go Fellowship Melbourne is hosting the talk series ‘Come and See’ at Sts Raphael, Nicholas and Irene in Bentleigh.
The ‘Come and See’ talk series commenced last night with 100 people attending. The talk was presented by Parish Priest Rev. Fr Chris Dimolianis.
The talk focused on the early Christian Church. Fr Chris explained how the Church grew and developed following the Holy Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ into Heaven despite the continual persecution of Christians until the freedom of religion was established.
An example Fr Chris spoke of was Saint Ignatius of Antioch who martyred in Rome. During his time in Roman custody before his martyrdom he would write letters to the local Christian Churches encouraging them in their struggle for their salvation. Also, the audience saw images of the catacombs built by the early Christians who had to worship underground in order to preserve the Christian faith. Early Christians would make the sign of the Cross through their eyes to signify that they were Christians.
The talk gave an insight into the challenges faced by the early Christian Church but also how it flourished and encouraged many to proclaim their faith to our Lord Jesus Christ like St George the Trophy Bearer. Indeed, to come and see is the first step in the Christian journey but essential in developing our faith and trust in God to in turn be active participants serving and ministering to each other.
Following the conclusion of the presentation the audience asked questions and were answered by His Grace Bishop Kyriakos and Fr Chris. The audience then was treated to a spread of savoury and sweet items.
The next talk will be held on Thursday, 17 November 2022 at 7pm.
