Feast of Saint Gregory the Theologian, Archbishop of Constantinople, was celebrated in the Phanar

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided over the Divine Liturgy for the feast of Saint Gregory the Theologian, on Wednesday, 25 January 2023, at the Venerable Patriarchal Church, which was celebrated by Archimandrite Gregory, Chief Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod.

His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon and His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos of Selyvria attended the service, as well as the Mayor of Byron in Attica, Grigorios Katopodis, with his associates, and faithful from Constantinople and pilgrims from abroad.

After the Divine Liturgy, the Ecumenical Patriarch performed a Trisagion for the repose of the soul of the late former Metropolitan Panteleimon of Belgium, who reposed in the Lord on Tuesday in his birthplace, Chios.

On the eve of the Great Vespers of the feast, Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia presided over the service.

Trisagion in memory of Patriarch Gregory VII

In memory of St. Gregory, Archbishop of Constantinople the Theologian, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, accompanied by the Chief Secretary Gregory, went to the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi in Valoukli, and performed a Trisagion for the repose of the soul of his predecessor Gregory VII (1923-1924), who had given the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Holy Church of Poland.
