Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew travels to Rome for the enthronement of the new Pope

On Saturday, 17 May 2025, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, accompanied by His Eminence Metropolitan Job of Pisidia, and the Codicographer of the Holy and Sacred Synod, Deacon Father Evlogios, departed for Rome to attend the enthronement of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.

In Rome, His Eminence Metropolitan Polykarpos of Italy, was added to the Patriarchal entourage.

On Monday morning, the Patriarch will have a private meeting and conversation with His Holiness the Pope, and will return to his see late in the evening of the same day.

It should be noted that His Eminence Metropolitan Job of Pisidia, serving in Southern Turkey, is the Orthodox co-chair of the Joint International Committee on Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches.

Upon His departure, His All-Holiness was escorted to the airport of Constantinople by His Commissioner, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, and Grand Archdeacon Fr Alexandros.
