The need to undertake coordinated actions, with further cooperation between religions, state and social institutions, but also every person of goodwill, for the protection of the natural environment and the preservation of God’s creation, especially today when humanity is experiencing the consequences of climate change, was highlighted by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who delivered the keynote address at an International Conference co-organized by Pázmány Péter Catholic University and the Hungarian National University of Public Administration in Budapest on Monday, 25 September 2023.

In his speech, delivered in English, he spoke at length, among other things, about the initiatives of the Mother Church to raise awareness of the world public opinion in this direction. (Read more here)

At noon on the same day, he went to the Carmelite Monastery, the current seat of the Hungarian Government, where Deputy Prime Minister Dr Zsolt Semjén, on behalf of the Government, hosted a banquet in honour of His Holiness, addressing him with great cordiality and respect.

Early in the afternoon, the Patriarch visited the sites of the Orthodox Centre of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Exarchate in the Hungarian capital, which is under reconstruction, as well as the Church of the Three Hierarchs, where he was informed about the progress of the works, and then departed by road, with his entourage, for the Holy Metropolis of Austria, where he will stay for a few days’ rest. On Friday, 29 September, he will fly to Rome at the official invitation of His Holiness Pope Francis of Rome.
