Diocese of Brisbane: Vigil for Sts Cyrus and John

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Diocese of Brisbane will be conducting Vigils every month at the various churches of Queensland with the goal of promoting orthodox worship amongst its congregation.
The first vigil in honour of the Holy Unmercenaries Cyrus and John was conducted at the parish of St George in South Brisbane by His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane, assisted by the Parish Priest of the Dormition of the Theotokos Mt Gravatt, Reverend Father Nicholas Brown.
In his sermon, His Grace spoke about the Holy Unmercenaries, their love to serve their fellow brethren, at the same time spreading the love of the Gospel and educating people about Christ.
Furthermore, Bishop Bartholomew emphasised the importance of the many beautiful services of our Church, stating that worship is not merely a ritual but it’s a transformative experience that engages the body, mind, and spirit, fostering a deep and lasting relationship with God and the community of believers.
Immediately following the vigil, dinner was organised in the adjacent hall where His Grace, the clergy and laity engaged in fellowship.
The next vigil will take place at the Parish of the Dormition of the Theotokos Mt Gravatt on Friday 11 July for the feast day of St Paisios, the Guardian and Patron of Australia and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.
