Diocese of Adelaide holds volunteer appreciation dinner for Glenelg Greek Festival 2025

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Holy Diocese of Adelaide hosted a dinner to honour the volunteers from this year’s Glenelg Greek Festival, held in honour of Theophany. Well over a hundred volunteers contributed to the running of the three-day festival this year – each in their own way contributing to making it the most successful Glenelg Greek Festival in its 45 year history.
The organising committee of the Festival hosted the event at the Archiepiscopal Church of St Sophia (Holy Wisdom of God) in Bowden from around 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Sunday the 16th of February 2025. Nearly 100 of the volunteers were able to attend to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate their combined achievements together.
The volunteers were also blessed to hear some encouraging words from His Grace Bishop Silouan of Adelaide, who conveyed the blessings of His Eminence, and also thanked the volunteers for their hard work and dedication. His Grace detailed the success of the Festival – in terms of feedback received, total funds raised, number of sponsors, number of sales, and total number of attendees. He went on to describe the many and varied uses that the funds contribute to – principal of which is the Diocese of Adelaide Cathedral project, but also assisting parishes and servicing the regional communities of the vast Diocese – initiatives that are in large part made possible by events such as these. These results are a fitting tribute to the sacrifice that the volunteers made, who rest well knowing that their contribution has helped the Church’s mission. Strengthened by this encouraging result, the volunteers left edified and ready for next year.
