Crete’s Elafonissi secures title of best beach in the world

The famous beach of Elafonissi, on the southwestern tip of Crete, has been voted by Tripadvisor users as the best beach in the world, the online travel platform announced on Tuesday.

The unusually shaped beach, with a short strip of pink sand linking (on most days) Crete with the islet of Elafonissi, received Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best 2025 title, awarded to destinations which receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period.

Elafonissi beat competition from Banana Beach in Thailand and Eagle Beach in Aruba. Myrtos, on Kefalonia, also made the top 20, ranking 10th.
