Consul General of Greece in Melbourne visits St John’s College

St John’s College was honoured to welcome the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Ms Dimitra Georgantzoglou, and Ms Maria Triantafyllou, Acting Coordinator of the Greek Education Office, for an official visit to the school. His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, Chair of the College Board, also joined the delegation, further emphasising the importance of the occasion.
The visit included a tour of the college and a formal meeting with Mr Mark Ponsford, Principal of St John’s College, and Mr Kristian Raspa, Director of Hellenism and Mrs Romina Pimpini, Director of Junior School. The meeting offered a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and share updates on the College’s strong commitment to Greek language and cultural education.
During the visit, the delegation learned about the College’s comprehensive Greek Language and Orthodoxy programs, as well as the broader Hellenistic educational vision that underpins student learning from Prep to Year 12. The visitors also explored the school’s history and its community-based initiatives that allow students to actively experience and celebrate their Hellenic heritage.
“The presence of the Consul General and the Coordinator of the Greek Education Office underscores the importance of international collaboration in promoting Hellenism in the diaspora,” said Mr Raspa. “At St John’s College, we remain dedicated to providing our students with authentic opportunities to engage with their identity, language, and faith both within and beyond the classroom.”
The College expressed its deep gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed its readiness to continue working closely with Greek education authorities and the broader Hellenic community to nurture a new generation of globally minded, culturally grounded students.
