Conference on Italo-Greek saints in Southern Italy

On Wednesday, 19 February 2025, a conference on the Italo-Greek saints in Southern Italy was held in the city of Reggio Calabria, which took place at The Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Reggio Calabria.

The initiative attracted a large audience, who came to listen to the erudite speech of Archimandrite Alessio Mandanikiotis, founder and head of the Hermitage of Candelora in S. Lucia del Mela (ME). In addition to the Institute, the event was promoted by the Episcopal Archive and the Seminary of the Diocese of Reggio Calabria-Bova, in collaboration with the Orthodox Metropolis of Italy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

On the next day, 20 February 2025, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Orthodox parish of San Paolo dei Greci in honour of Saint Leo, Bishop of Catania, who lived ascetically in the mountains of the city before ascending to the Diocese of Catania.

Together with Father Alessio, the Hierarchal commissioner of Calabria and Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saints Elias the New and Philaret the Orthodox of Seminara, Archimandrite Benedetto Colucci, and the Parish Priest of the Metropolis of Gioia Tauro (RC) and Nicastro (CZ), Protopresbyter Igor Shvets, concelebrated the Divine Liturgy.
