Christopher Hitchens’ influential book on Parthenon Sculpture reunification rereleased

Verso Books has announced the rerelease of Christopher Hitchens’ seminal “The Parthenon Marbles: The Case for Reunification,” described by the independent and radical publisher as an “eloquent account of a shameful piece of British imperial history.”

Originally published in 1987 under the title “Imperial Spoils: The Curious Case of the Elgin Marbles,” the book by the outspoken British-American cultural critic, who died in 2011, was reissued under its present title in 2008 and is regarded as putting forward one of the most influential “moral, artistic, legal and political” arguments for reunifying the Parthenon frieze in Athens.

The book’s rerelease comes as Greece’s claim has been gathering fresh support and momentum.
