Chalkida: Inspection of the Early Christian Church of Agia Paraskevi under restoration by Culture Minister Mendoni

On Thursday, 29 May 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Chalkida, and His Grace Bishop Nikodimos of Skopelos, welcomed the Hellenic Minister of Culture, Ms. Lina Mendoni, at the early Christian Church of Agia Paraskevi, patron saint of Chalkida, which is currently under-restoration, who inspected the progress of the restoration works and was informed about the progress of the work being carried out.

The Minister was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Culture and the head of the Directorate for the Restoration of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (DRBPM), Mr. Themistoklis Vlachoulis.

Ms. Mendoni made her position clear, for strict adherence to the implementation schedule of the remaining planned works, so that, after their timely completion, this important monument of Chalkida can be handed over again, to the worship and liturgical life of the city’s Christians, as the centre of the Parish of its patron saint, Saint Paraskevi.

Also present during the Minister’s visit were the parish priests, Archimandrite Symeon Iliodromitis and Father Ioannis Fafoutis, the Proistamenos and executives of the Ephorate of Antiquities (EFA) of Evia and representatives of the company that contracted the project.
