Bishops’ Conference convenes in Helsinki for the first time under leadership of Archbishop Elia

The Bishops’ Conference convened on 12 February 2025, in Helsinki for the first time under the leadership of Archbishop Elia.
At the initiative of the Archbishop, the format of the conference has evolved. Instead of simply making quick decisions on agenda items, the bishops will now dedicate a full working day to discussions on pressing issues facing the Church.
Moreover, the location of the Bishops’ Conference will not be limited to Helsinki. Moving forward, the conference will also be held at least once a year in Kuopio and Oulu, allowing for greater accessibility and engagement.
Increased Liturgical Presence
In addition to these structural changes, the bishops will increase their joint liturgical presence. The schedule for services to be conducted together in different dioceses has already been set for this year, with further details to be announced in due course.
This new approach aims to enhance collegiality among the bishops, strengthen the Church’s pastoral outreach, and foster greater unity within the Finnish Orthodox Church.
