Athens takes emergency measures to protect homeless from cold snap

The City of Athens is taking emergency measures in response to the freezing temperatures expected in the coming days, according to forecasts from the National Meteorological Service. These measures will take effect starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
To provide shelter and assistance, the Agios Eleftherios Friendship Club (372 Acharnon Street) has been opened, offering safe accommodation, food, and essential care services.
Additionally, street work teams from the municipality’s Social Solidarity Directorate will patrol the city, distributing hot tea, food, clothing, and blankets to homeless individuals. Those in need of shelter will be transported to the overnight facility at the Multipurpose Homeless Center, located at the corner of Acharnon and Liossion streets.
Authorities urge citizens to report anyone in need of assistance by calling the City of Athens Reception and Solidarity Center at 210-5246515/6, providing the exact location. Reports can also be made by dialing 1595, with charges varying by service provider.
