Archbishop of Athens presides over Vespers at the Church of St. Irene in Athens

On Sunday evening, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece presided over the festal Great Vespers at the historic Church of Saint Irene on Aiolou Street in central Athens.
The homily was delivered by Archimandrite Nektarios Karsiotis, preacher of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. Following the service, the church’s head priest, Fr. Thomas Chrysikos, offered a brief reflection on the rich history of the church and shared some of the challenges the parish is currently facing.
The Archbishop praised Fr. Thomas and his team for their dedicated ministry, describing them as “a living testimony of love and peace.”
In his remarks on the feast of Saint Irene, Archbishop Ieronymos highlighted the deeper significance of the saint’s name in today’s world, emphasising the need for peace in every human heart, within families, and across society.
“Let us pray tonight,” he said, “that Saint Irene intercedes for what we all long for: the removal of war, the end of unrest.”
He concluded with a heartfelt message: “Our prayer is that Saint Irene embraces the wounds that fight against peace in the world and grants peace to our hearts, our homes, our homeland, and to the entire world.”
