Amorgos island declared in state of emergency due to seismic activity

After Santorini, Amorgos has also been declared in a state of emergency as successive earthquakes continue to be recorded in the sea area between the two islands.

The decision, which will remain in effect until March 11, was announced by the General Secretary for Civil Protection, Vassilis Papageorgiou.

The strongest earthquake in recent hours measured 5.0 in magnitude, while scientists warn that the seismic activity could persist for weeks or even months. They also do not rule out the possibility of a 6.5-magnitude earthquake.

Additionally, experts are set to convene on Saturday for a reassessment of the situation and to issue an updated report.
