Archbishop of Australia and Metropolitan of Rethymno arrive in Melbourne
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, is currently undertaking a pastoral visit to the Holy Diocese of Chora, in Victoria, and is accompanied by His Eminence Metropolitan Prodromos of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, who has brought fragments of the holy relics of the Four Holy New Martyrs of Rethymno, Manuel, Angelos, George and Nicholas.
The two Hierarchs, together with Archimandrite Vasilios Papadakis, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Anastasia of Rome in Rethymno, and Archimandrite Theologos Papalevyzakis, Spiritual Councillor of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Arkadi, arrived in the city of Melbourne on Friday evening, 13 December.
The warm and moving reception they received at the airport was offered by Their Graces, Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne and Bishop Evmenios of Chora, who were accompanied by clergy and laity from both Holy Dioceses of the State of Victoria. Representatives of the Cretan Community were also present, with two Cretan young women welcoming their compatriots, the Hierarchs, by offering them a bouquet of flowers. A delegation of students from St. John’s College, Preston, also participated in the reception.
