Historic Inaugural Pascha at St Savvas of Kalymnos in Darwin
With the blessing and holy prayers of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the newly established Parish of St Savvas the New of Kalymnos, Palmerston NT, the function of which started only three Sundays ago, celebrated its first Pascha. Crowds of people, young and old, young families with many children, grandparents, participated in the services during the Holy Week and Pascha 2023. The presence, in particular, of the many young boys and girls, as well as the many young families, left the mark of the life of the new parish.
We praise God and give thanks to our Archbishop, His Eminence Makarios of Australia, whose one of the first pastoral concerns, from the day he assumed the helm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, was the establishment of a second parish in Darwin to meet the ecclesiastical needs of the numerous faithful, which, as it emerges from reality, were impossible to be met by a single parish.
The huge hall, where the parish is served until the future construction of the church, was full house during all the services of Holy Week and Pascha. Particularly characteristic and indicative of the faithful’s ecclesiastical thirst was the fact that they come at the beginning of the holy services and leave after they finish.
The members of the Committee and Philoptochos, under the spiritual guidance of the parish priest Fr Chris Tsoraklidis, work tirelessly and with love in Christ towards each other for the beauty of the place and the service of the faithful, while Fr Chris spares no effort and labour, like all our blessed priests, to bring the faithful under the wings of the Church.
Joy was painted on the faces of young and old. Especially the young people, whose participation in the events of Holy Week, such as of the girls in the decoration of the Epitaphios and of the boys in the Epitaphios procession, was very active and enthusiastic.
The first Pacha of the newly established parish of Saint Savva the New of Kalymnos was a source of joy and many blessings, for which we glorify the Lord who was crucified and resurrected for us.
