20 Years of Fundraising for the Cancer Council by the Women of the Greek Community in WA

On Ascension Thursday, 29 May 2025, the Women of the Greek Community in the Diocese of Perth hosted a Biggest Morning Tea, attended by 230 guests, to raise funds for the Cancer Council.

The event was held at the main Diocese Conference Centre, located at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese offices in Dianella, and took place in the presence of His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth and the Consul of Greece in Perth, Ms Eleni Georgopoulou.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the annual fundraiser, with $12,000 raised on the day—bringing the total amount raised over the past two decades to just over $200,000.

His Grace conveyed the paternal blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and praised the tireless efforts of the organising committee and volunteers. He acknowledged that nearly every family, at some point, is touched by the emotional burden of a cancer diagnosis.

In the past, proceeds from this important fundraiser supported a significant research project on bone marrow cancer treatment at the University of Western Australia, led by Dr Belinda Guo.

Overall, it was a remarkable event that brought together the faithful in a spirit of unity, compassion, and generosity.
